This single bedroom property on Tay Street, Polwarth is the residence of an actress. She rents it for short periods when she is away working. I met her at a networking event and she eventually asked me to photograph her property for Airbnb. In fact I photographed a couple of her serviced accommodation flats.
Polwarth is a mainly residential area of Edinburgh. The Union Canal flows through Polwarth on its way from Edinburgh to Falkirk. You can take a nice relaxing walk along the Canal, a few minutes walk from Tay Street. The Fountain Park shopping centre is relatively close by, with a range of shops, restaurants and Cineworld Cinemas. The Edinburgh city centre is only twenty minutes away by public transport.
On the day of the shoot, the weather was very nice, sunny with a few clouds. Seeing the blues sky out of the window always makes for better marketing photos. Unfortunately, one has to book the day in advance (when the serviced accommodation is not booked) and hope for the best. In fact you may notice that in one of the photos, the sky is totally overcast. I got so caught up in photographing the bedroom that I forgot to photograph the en suite bathroom. The owner would have been fine without the extra image, but since it was totally my fault, I came back the next day to complete the assignment. it is interesting to compare the photos of the two bathrooms and see how much of a difference a hint of blue sky makes.
The owner has been using these photographs for quite some time now, and I’m quite sure they have more than paid for themselves. Compared to the cost of maintenance, repairs and upgrades, professional photography for your serviced accommodation is a small expense, well worth it.
